23. Crew Roles

TV Ident: E4

Crew Roles

Director:  Laurence Hisee

Definition: A film director is a person who directs the making of a film. Generally, a film director controls a film's artistic and dramatic aspects, and visualizes the script while guiding the technical crew and actors in the fulfillment of that vision.

Laurence will be in charge of making the film itself, he will control what the actors do and how they carry out the script and direction. He will bring together all of the technical crew and ensure that they are all completing the job to a good enough standard.

Producer: Ben Davis

Definition: Producers play a very important role in the television, film and video industries. A producer will be in charge of each project from beginning to end and may also be involved in the marketing and distribution processes.

I will be ensuring each project within the creation of the ident is carried out effectively and efficiently. I will be in charge of marketing and the distribution process by getting in contact with E4, making sure that there will be numerous allocated time slots available for our line of idents

Director of Photography (D.P.): Laurence Hisee
Definition: A director of photography is the in charge over the camera and lighting crews working on a film, television production or other live action piece and is responsible for achieving artistic and technical decisions related to the image.

Here Laurence will be in charge of things like cinematography, he will be designing all of the shots and how the camera will be set up. He is in charge of the lighting crew so he will be debriefing them before the filming and he will ensure all artistic and technical decisions are achieved.

Editor: Ben Davis
Definition: As a film or video editor, they are responsible for assembling recorded raw material into a finished product that's suitable for broadcasting. The material may include camera footage, dialogue, sound effects, graphics and special effects. This is a key role in the post-production process and their skills can determine the quality and delivery of the final product.

For Editing I will be using final cut express on my iMac provided by the company. Because of the fact that the ident is only 15 seconds long I will not need to do masses of editing. Mainly cuts and cross dissolves.

Camera Operator: Laurence Hisee

Definition: A camera operator is part of a film crew consisting of the director of photography and one or more camera assistants. In documentary filmmaking and news, the camera is often called on to film unfolding, unscripted events.

Laurence will also be the camera operator, he will be listening to both director and director of photography, carrying out all necessary jobs needing to be done. (Generally filming)
